This book, edited by H. Crichton Miller, consists of chapters by experts, including Rivers, on the traumatic neuroses of war. Many of the authors refer to psychoanalytic concepts and techniques, and there is an entire chapter by Maurice Nicoll and James Young, devoted speciï¬ cally to this subject. Watkins' groundbreaking Hypnotherapy of War Neuroses gives a detailed account of the context, methods, and results of his techniques at Welch Convalescent Hospital during World War II. These techniques showed considerable success, more than enough to be worth studying even today. The study of traumatic neuroses in times of war had repercussions on psychoanalytical theory and consequences for Freudian politics at the beginning of the s.
